Helen Acheson - Sally (A Hand of Bridge)
Helen completed her BMus (Hons) (First Class) in Performance Voice in 2012 at the University of Auckland studying with Dr. Morag Atchison, where she was awarded scholarships for singing from the Les and Sonia Andrews Cultural Foundation and the Evelyn M. Harrison foundation.
She has been a core member of Voices NZ Chamber Choir since 2011, touring with the group to Argentina, Australia, and Europe. She has sung with the St. Matthews vocal quartet, the St. Patrick’s Cathedral vocal octet, and she is a founding member of a new vocal collective with singers from Voices.
She performs as a soloist for regional choral societies and for collaborative projects including the Masaaki Suzuki Bach Cantata Residency and the International Viola Congress where she performed a programme of NZ work for solo voice and viola.
Helen has a particular interest in new music, attending the Nelson Composers' Workshop several times as a singer, and she has performed in premieres of many new works including Eve de Castro-Robinson’s Len Lye, and the title role in Chris Adams' chamber opera, River Lavalle.
