Sarah-Jane Rennie - Sister Angelica
Sarah-Jane holds a Bachelor of Music Performance in Voice from The Victorian College of the Arts, and a Diploma in Performing Arts (Opera) from The University of Auckland School of Music. She was a 2002 Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist, and is a current Freemasons Opera Artist for New Zealand Opera.
Sarah-Jane’s Operatic roles include Amor Orfeo ed Euridice (Auckland Chamber Orchestra), Micaela Carmen (Wanganui Opera), Pamina The Magic Flute (Opera Factory), Lakme Lakme (Garden Opera), Elettra Idomeneo (Auckland Opera Studio), Orphan Der Rosenkavalier, and La Madre Madama Butterfly (New Zealand Opera). Her cover work for New Zealand Opera includes Leila The Pearl Fishers, Donna Anna Don Giovanni, Violetta La Traviata, and Micaela Carmen.
Her concert work includes Jenkins' Cantata Memoria (Nelson Civic Choir), Mozart's Exultate Jubilate and Bach's St John’s Passion (CBS), Simply Divine (Jubilate Singers), Verdi in Concert (APO), Lloyd Webber's Requiem and Handel's Messiah (CSO and CBS), Kiri and Friends (APO) recorded for TV, CD and DVD, and as a featured soloist in New Zealand Opera's Lazy Sundays in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens in February 2020.
She has toured for Sir Andrew Lloyd Webbers’ Really Useful Group, and played the Carlotta Alternate for the Phantom of the Opera Australasian tour 2008-09 and the World tour 2013-16. She sang in ten cities across the Pacific, Asia and Europe.
Sarah-Jane regularly works with Sharolyn Kimmorley and Glenn Winslade in Sydney, and Martin Setchell in Christchurch. Upcoming performances include Handel's Messiah in Ashburton, and the role of Suor Angelica in Toi Toi Opera's inaugural production, Suor Angelica & Elegies in Christchurch in February 2021.
