Bronwyn Corbet - Costume Consultant
Born in Tauranga and schooled in Hamilton, Bronwyn graduated from Auckland University with an Arts Degree with a double major in Social Anthropology and Political Studies. Upon realising there was little need for an undergraduate with a major in either, she returned to the Bay of Plenty and went on to retrain in Fashion Design for three years where she received the Top Student Award, the Fashion Flair and Design Excellence Award and the Supreme Award for her year.
Having moved to Christchurch to set up her clothing label, Bronwyn had the opportunity to be involved in her first opera, Carmen, with Southern Opera in 2007. Discovering a new passion for being involved in stage productions, Bronwyn abandoned her dream of being a contemporary, kiwi kinda version of Paul Poiret and continued with full-time work for The Court Theatre wardrobe for the following six years while also working on the operas in Canterbury.
Bronwyn worked on Southern Opera's productions of Il Trovatore, Gianni Schicchi and The Magic Flute, and has subsequently been involved in New Zealand Opera's productions of Noye's Fludde, La Bohème, Don Giovanni, Sweeney Todd, Madama Butterfly and La Traviata.
Now having her own retail shop The Quaint and the Curious, Bronwyn is very passionate about supporting local business and initiatives and is active in promoting greater awareness and support of local and independent enterprise. With this is mind, the ethos and commitment of Toi Toi Opera to local artists, creatives and crew and to the development, opportunity and growth for all involved is something that Bronwyn is really enthusiastic about. It is with humble and heartfelt delight, gratitude and honour that Bronwyn joins the team for Toi Toi Opera's inaugural production of Suor Angelica & Elegies in 2021.
