Cheuky Chan - Répétiteur

Cheuky grew up in Christchurch and completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Répétiteur and Accompaniment at the Wales International Academy of Voice in 2017, and was awarded the Keith Laugesen Music Scholarship the same year. She was a New Zealand Opera Freemasons Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist between 2013 and 2014. Prior to that, she completed a Master of Music with distinction (2006), a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature (2008), and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning (2011) at the University of Canterbury, as well as Postgraduate Studies in Piano at Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar, Germany (2008). She was the recipient of the University of Canterbury’s Masters Scholarship in 2005 and the Leslie Atkinson Memorial Prize in Music (2003).

She has performed alongside Dame Malvina Major in DMMF fundraising galas, and was the orchestral pianist performing with Plácido Domingo & Katherine Jenkins in A Night to Remember - Charity Concert for the Christchurch Earthquake. In 2015 she was a faculty accompanist for the IFAC Handa NZ Singing School. Cheuky has performed at the NZ Embassy in Berlin, as well as in numerous concerts as part of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the Akaroa International Music Festival, and New Zealand Opera.

Since moving to the UK in 2016, Cheuky has worked with the Welsh National Opera, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Wedmore Opera, Lyric Opera Studio Weimar, and accompanied various choirs locally and on overseas tours. As a répétiteur, she has worked on productions of Don Giovanni, Der fliegender Holländer, Noye’s Fludde, Cavalleria rusticana, Die Zauberflöte, and Le nozze di Figaro. She has accompanied lessons and masterclasses for Dame Malvina Major, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Dennis O’Neill, Richard Bonnynge, Nuccia Foccile, Susan Bullock, Yvonne Kenny, Nelly Miricioiu, Jonathan Lemalu, Francesco Pasqualetti, Damon Ploumis, and Capucine Chiaudani.

In between her pursuits as a répétiteur, Cheuky has worked for the NZ Police as an emergency communicator, volunteered with Community Patrols NZ, and worked at a homeless shelter for young women in Cardiff, Wales. She is excited to join the team at Toi Toi Opera and looks forward to being part of upcoming projects.
