Sheena Baines - Lighting Designer

Sheena is a lighting designer with over 30 years experience. In 2021 she lit Toi Toi Opera’s production of Suor Angelica & Elegies in the Great Hall, as well as the Court Theatre’s production of Frankenstein.

She learnt her craft at the Court Theatre and was a Technician and then Head Technician at the theatre for sixteen years. Working with many talented people she lit over 100 productions notably Anthony and Cleopatra, Mother Courage and her Children, Trainspotting, Sons, and Great Expectations.

Sheena also toured extensively with Mark Hadlow with his one man show SNAG, and lit Copenhagen for the Auckland theatre Company and Time Pieces for Southern Opera.

In 2007 Sheena travelled to Ohio and lit the Peoria Ballet for the Ohio Northern University.

Sheena left the Court in 2004 and became the Events Technical Coordinator for the Christchurch City Council, project managing Classical Sparks, Anthony Harper Lawyers Summer Theatre and creating and producing Botanic D’lights.

Since 2018 Sheena has become the Events Department Manager for Spectrum Lighting and Sound. She has had a long association with the National Academy of Singing and Dramatic Art (NASDA at Ara) lighting their first production, and is enjoying being available to light their shows and work with the students there.
