Christy Lassen - Production Designer & Properties Manager

Christy is a Christchurch-based freelancer who dabbles in 'a little bit of everything theatre'.

A graduate of the NZ Film & Television Training School (1992), Christy spent her next 10 years touring internationally as part of the Stage Management team. Shows such as Blood Brothers, Chess, The New Rocky Horror Picture Show, Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Secret Garden and Chicago were among the highlights.

More recently, Christy spent three years at The Court Theatre as their Properties Manager. Favourite shows during this time include Mary Poppins, Legally Blonde, Chicago, Macbeth and The Dunstan Creek Séance.

It was whilst moonlighting as Stage Manager & Props Designer on the Selwyn House School production of Mary Poppins that Christy decided to take the leap and start her own Props Design, Manufacture & Hire Company – and so The Little Red Hen Company was born.

Although COVID-19 has messed up a lot of productions over the past few years, Christy has been fortunate to be involved in My Fair Lady for Showbiz Christchurch (show cancelled), Friends the Musical Parody for Ben McDonald (show cancelled), Cinderella and Madagascar for GMG Productions, Jersey Boys for G&T Productions, and Suor Angelica & Elegies for Toi Toi Opera.

Christy has just finished designing and building the props for Matilda the Musical for the New Zealand Musical Theatre Consortium, and is currently working as Production Designer and Properties Manager on Toi Toi Opera’s upcoming season, A Barber & Bernstein Double Bill. She is very much looking forward to sharing both of these projects with audiences around Aotearoa.
