Tara Martin - The Monitress

Soprano Tara holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Performance (Voice Major, Piano Minor) from Southwest Texas State University. She has extensive performance experience in the USA, the UK, and NZ in opera, musical theatre, and theatre.

Her performance credits in the US include: Cinderella in Into the Woods, Cousin Hebe in HMS Pinafore, Antonia in Man of La Mancha, Pickalittle Lady in Music Man, as well as various recitals, short opera scenes and one-act operas. She was musical director for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Really Rosie, Godspell, West Side Story, Barnum, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Pirates of Penzance and Little Shop of Horrors (Island Lake Sports and Arts Centre Camp, New York).

In 2002 she performed in the UK in Oklahoma before coming to New Zealand.

Her New Zealand theatre credits include: The Phantom of the Opera, Evita, An Evening of Rodgers and Hammerstein Classics, Broadway Hitmen, and Les Misérables (Showbiz Christchurch), Footprints a bicultural opera (Free Theatre), Fay in Chorus of Disapproval, and Merry Wives of Windsor (Repertory Theatre), understudy for mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors (Atlas Voices Ensemble), Acis and Galatea, Don Giovanni, La Bohème, La Traviata, Carmen, and Tosca (NZ Opera).

She was a soloist with the Artists and Doctors Orchestra from 2008-2018 and is currently a chorus member with NZ Opera, a performing member of The Opera Club and the Atlas Voices Ensemble - all of which she fits around a busy career as a neurological physiotherapist.
